The energy environment has been greatly changed following the
Great East Japan Earthquake, which has caused such devastating
damage, on top of existing global warming and fossil energy
depletion issues. In addition, the absolute volume of energy
consumption has increased on a global scale, due to rapid economic
growth of emerging countries.
Photovoltaic power generation, which converts the blessings of natural solar energy
into electricity, has been hailed as a source of clean energy,
and its applications have expanded from house rooftops and public and industrial installations,
to large-scale power generation platforms called "Mega solar".
Such new installations have increased in many countries of the world
and are expected to be widely utilized.
I am convinced that photovoltaic power generation is not only a key technology
for realizing a low-carbon society but also that it is playing an important role
as a new energy source for the future. Therefore, JPEA is tackling various issues
concerning the expansion and penetration of photovoltaic power generation.
For example, in training of specialists who will be qualified
as "Photovoltaic Construction Specialists",
and with research & development of measures to deal with voltage
& frequency fluctuations caused by PV power system grid connections.
We are involved with the creation and completion of a new industry vision
targeting 2030 from industry development perspectives.
Fortunately, Japan's photovoltaic power generation has attained a
level which we can be proud to present to the world, with positive support
of the government and reliance on our industry's technological development
and dissemination efforts, as well as increasingly higher levels of
awareness about environmental problems in all nations.
In addition, photovoltaic power generation has been recognized as a source
of new employment and of benefits to related industries,
and there is a realization that the PV industry is going to develop into
a large-scale new industry.
Given these circumstances, accelerated installations and a revolution
in cost reduction are expected. By overcoming these issues,
further growth and development of Japan's photovoltaic power
generation industry can achieve a leap forward in the Japanese
and global markets.
I would like to continue making efforts in further acceleration
of PV power generation installations and PV's popularization.
Your continued support and cooperation will be much appreciated.
